Just about done!

Just about done!

We are ALMOST there.. Spring calving is tantalizingly close to wrapping up, as the cows are finishing their 2nd heat cycle.  Each cycle is roughly 21 days, and we hope that the great majority of cows should be bred within 2 cycles of the bull joining them in pasture.

This calf needed some extra help getting started, so we had to bring the cow in to the crate today. After one session this morning, the pair is off to the races feeding on their own & ready to go to grass as the last of the cattle will be moved out this week. The pastures are definitely ready for cattle as the grass keeps coming, so far the conditions have been great.

When driving the roads of beautiful Manitoulin, remember to keep your eyes on the pastures for cows & calves - an awesome part of the iconic Island scenery. No matter where your road may be leading you, take the time to stop & smell the pastures.
